Peperoni Pizzeria

19 Apr

Our quest for good food, had taken our feet to Hillcrest Park. Nested at Hillcrest Park, this place, may not be the easiest to find and at least, is not friendly for our feet. As the nearest bus stop is located at a distance away from the place, one got to walk a fair distance deep into the residential area upon reaching the place. If you would like to save all the trouble, one may be better off taking a cab or drive in.

Fret not, this lovely restaurant is definitely worth all your troubles. One can see drawings everywhere in the restaurant. Customers are given crayons on their table to sketch and draw on colour papers. Judging from the crowd (a good mix of locals and expatriates) on Monday evening, I reckoned the above said is truly worthy. This place is obviously very popular with the expatriates and I think to myself that the food must be good. Having said that, I’m more than happy that we got a table and I guess we were lucky.

Part of the Les Amis Group, Peperoni Pizzeria is an Italian restaurant that serves good Italian food, especially their pizzas. The pizzas here come in three sizes, 9 inch, 12 inch and XXL. XXL is a very large pizza that is pretty good for sharing among large group or among the family. As there’s only the 2 of us, we ordered the Prosciutto Crudo di Parma and Frutti di Mare, both 9 inch for sharing.

Prosciutto Crudo di Parma is a pizza topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, parma ham and rocket salad. Goodness me, this tasted better than we had expected. The combination of parma ham and rocket salad is simply amazing. The thin crust is one of the selling point of the pizzas here and they are all cooked, using the traditional wood-fired oven, which added an extra touch to the pizzas.

Frutti di Mare is very nice as well. Topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, prawns, clams, scallops and squid rings. It was tasty and the seafood were fresh. The downside, was probably that the seafood were kind of limited. How I wish there’s more squid, prawns and scallops… Given the reasonable pricing, one cannot really fault them.

After our pizza feast, we ordered the tiramisu for sharing. Similarly, we were pleased with the tiramisu here. Soft, moist and chilled, were what we had liked about this flavorful cake. The serving of the cake was quite generous as well.

Conclusion: While it may not be easy to find the place, it maybe well worth your effort and trouble. Reasonable pricing and on top of that, the restaurant does not levy service charge. I will give credit for that. Pricing aside, the pizzas here, are definitely one of the better ones out there. Will be back for more. Recommended to make reservation if going in large groups.

Verdict: 8/10
